This recipe is made in the bread machine.

1 1/8 cups water
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup bread flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
4 tbsp butter
2 tbsp sugar
1/4 c instant potato flakes
1 1/2 tsp RED STAR active dry yeast, or as per manufacturer’s instructions.

Ingredients: A recipe for whole wheat bread

1 pkg dry yeast
3 tbsp brown sugar
3/4 cup warm water 2 3/4 cup whole-wheat flour
Optional but recommended: Bread Dough Enhancer. Use per manufacturer's instructions.
3 tbsp nonfat dry milk powder
3 tbsp vegetable oil
1 egg OR 2 egg whites
1 tsp salt

Add yeast and sugar to water; let stand until foamy. Mix flour, milk powder, dough enhancer, oil and egg whites. Mix by hand, or use metal blade or mixer with dough hook in your food processor.

Dough will be sticky. If it seems too sticky, add a little more flour. If it seems too dry, add a little more water.

When dough is moist but not too sticky, mix dough until well kneaded.

Make a hole in center, and pour in the yeast mixture. Stir, then knead on floured kneading board until elastic.

Place dough in large plastic bag. Squeeze out air bubbles, seal, and place in bowl. Allow to rise in warm spot until doubled.

Oil a baking sheet. Punch dough down then shape into ball. Place on baking sheet and cover with plastic. Rise until your recipe for whole wheat bread until doubled.

Preheat oven to 375 F. Place rack in center of oven. Dust dough top with flour. Make a slash across the top for decoration. Bake about 30-35 minutes until bread sounds hollow when tapped on bottom. Remove from pan and cool on rack.
