Best Recipe Memorial Day Sandwich Rolls

low carb barbecue cookbook To many of us, Memorial Day marks the start of the cookout season. Serve this recipe Memorial Day sandwich rolls with slices of succulent barbecued beef, pork or chicken, a great tossed salad, and something wonderful for dessert.

Trivia: Over two dozen cities or towns claim to have been the birthplace of the Memorial Day celebration.

Recipe Memorial Day Sandwich Rolls

1/2 cup warm water
1 tbsp sugar
1 pkg rapid rise dry yeast
6 oz warm milk
½ tsp salt
¼tsp baking soda; softened in 1 tbsp water
2 ½ cup flour
Optional but recommended: Bread Dough Enhancer. Use per manufacturer's instructions.

In large mixing bowl combine warm water, sugar and yeast. Let stand about 5 minutes until the mixture is very bubbly.

Add the remainder of the ingredients, using only 1 cup of the flour at this time. Mix well to smooth dough. Beat in the rest of the flour until the batter is thick and all flour is dissolvled.

Prepare 5 oven-proof soup bowls (5" diameter) by spraying with cooking spray, then dusting lightly with cornmeal.

Divide the dough evenly among these five soup bowls. Spray a bit of celephone wrap with cooking spray, and cover each bowl with the wrap. Let rise for an hour or until the dough rises above the rim of the bowls. Remove the wrap.

Bake in preheated 375 F oven until done, about 20 minutes. Cool your sandwich rolls in containers on rack. Spray each with cooking spray to keep the crusts soft.

When ready to use for sandwiches, slice the sandwich rolls in half horizontally, butter, and grill on barbecue or grill until brown. Fill as desired, and serve.
